    This course assesses supervisors how to monitor operatives who set up Signing, Lighting & Guarding equipment on public roads, as required by the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991.
    Supervisors must be experienced and currently employed in working on Public Highways, as this unit focuses on assessment.

    This 1-day experienced course assesses you on how to:

    • Conduct site surveys to identify site requirements. 
    • Ensure pedestrian safety and access. 
    • Reduce traffic disruption and maintain traffic safety. 
    • Consider 'special needs' of site users. 
    • Estimate the 'working space' needed for plant and equipment. 
    • Perform on-site risk assessment and establish a safe system of working. 
    • Choose and use PPE appropriately. 
    • Set up and remove temporary footways, traffic lanes and safety zones. 
    • Check equipment is fit for use. 
    • Position SLG equipment on site correctly.
    • Commission and de-commission signals properly.
    • Adjust signal controls to suit traffic conditions. 
    • Work safely and follow best practices. 
    • Check equipment is fit for use. 
    • Demonstrate sufficient knowledge through oral or written questions.

    This course is for those delegates who supervise those who reinstate roadways in line with the 2nd Edition Specification for reinstatement of openings in the Highway and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRSWA), revised 2002 Code of Practice.
    This course is best for somebody who has previous knowledge within this sector. If you do not have prior experience within the New Roads and Streetworks working sector, the novice course is highly recommended.
    New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) training is compulsory for anyone who may be involved in working on and adjacent to the public highways.
    Pre-Requisites: The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English.
